The issues with school vouchers are many. By reducing funding to public schools to finance the vouchers, our public school system has to dig even harder to find the money for education programs, competitive salaries and building maintenance. School vouchers will create a caste system whenTexas children should be receiving a well-grounded, solid education, not just those students attending elite private schools.
Bonhoeffer was killed in 1945 because of his opposition to Hitler. What is at risk now is not the death of public education but severely crippling this great Texas institution that educates our children. Yes, the quest of Abbott and Patrick to help public education through vouchers makes them misleaders and not leaders. I hope the legislators opposing vouchers remain strong even if they must carry this fight through a summer of special sessions.
