The boy, who was 10 when the incident occurred in March 2022, was held in a restraint that led to two breaks in his leg, according to the lawsuit.

The Strawbridge School, a special-education program, failed to properly train employees on safely performing restraints, Spradlin alleged in a lawsuit filed last month in Frederick County Circuit Court. Her son’s leg was broken in two places during the restraint, the lawsuit claims. Spradlin filed the complaint on behalf of her son, naming the school and Frederick County Public Schools, which placed him at Strawbridge, as defendants.

Spradlin’s son began attending the Strawbridge School in 2019, starting virtually then switching to in-person classes in October 2020, according to the lawsuit. Near the end of the footage, the boy stood and hopped on one foot down the hallway, with the help of two staff members.
