South Orange-Maplewood school officials launched the 30-second radio advertisement on Hot 97 FM, which is referred to as the “Home of Hip Hop,” on Monday. It will run until Aug. 16.
The radio spot was launched to attract “talented individuals from diverse backgrounds,” according to a release. Hot 97 FM is the number one Nielsen-rated radio station in the New York City metropolitan area amongThe four-week campaign has cost the district $4,000, officials said. The funding came from last year’s human resources budget.
“Attention educators: join the school district of South Orange and Maplewood in promoting diversity, equity and inclusion,” a peppy woman’s voice. “We empower students by fostering a learner-centered environment through innovative teaching and community partnerships. The district of roughly 6,600 students is nearly 54% white and a quarter Black, with smaller percentages of Hispanic and Asian students, according to state data.
