Herman Cruse, a bus driver of 30 years, is teaching kids to read between routes at Middle Township Elementary School #1.
When Herman Cruse isn’t taking students to and from school on bus A28 in Middle Township, he’s helping them with their reading in the classroom.
“There have been times where I went to the library, I went to the gym, I went shopping, ran errands and then sometimes I would just sleep in my car,” said Cruse, 55. “Mr. Herman’s Kids” started back up again this school year in October. His enthusiasm and passion for his ongoing program caught the attention of township officials, who plan to present him with a civic recognition award Monday.
Bakley and district officials have described Cruse as humble, a great communicator and a driver who takes the time to get to know his “little friends,” so he can better support them.
