The San Jose police union's longtime executive director has been charged with attempting to import illegal synthetic opioid drugs from overseas in a scheme to distribute them in the U.S., federal prosecutors said Wednesday.
The shipments had labels that included "Wedding Party Favors," "Gift Makeup," and "Chocolate and Sweets," federal officials said. Segovia allegedly used encrypted WhatsApp communications to plan for receiving and sending pill shipments.
