San Diego to shutter four municipal pools due to supply chain shortage of CO2 [Breaking]
Four municipal pools in the city of San Diego will temporarily close Monday as the result of a nationwide shortage of carbon dioxide, officials said Saturday.
Difficulties obtaining CO2 are the result of pandemic-related supply chain disruptions, which have also impacted theThe affected pools are: Carmel Valley at 3777 Townsgate Drive, Colina Del Sol at 4150 54th Place, Kearny Mesa at 3170 Armstrong St. and Martin Luther King Jr. at 6401 Skyline Drive. It’s unclear how long these facilities will be closed. City officials are now seeking alternate sources of CO2.
Carbon dioxide is used to maintain pH levels at the city’s 14 municipal pools. During the shortage, city officials will use muriatic acid as an alternative. However, the substitution will require more frequent monitoring, and the city has said it only has enough staffing for 10 of its swimming facilities.Programing at temporarily closed pools will be moved to nearby facilities, such as from Colina Del Sol and Martin Luther King Jr. to the City Heights Swim Center at 4380 Landis St.
