San Diego police investigate assault on member of SDSU's Chabad House as hate crime [Breaking]
The Chabad House at San Diego State University says a member of its community was targeted Monday in what the Jewish student center denounced as an antisemitic attack.The victim, a 65-year-old man, was assaulted about 10 a.m. in the 7-Eleven store on College Avenue, not far from the campus and the Chabad House, police said.Rabbi Chalom Boudjnah said in a news release that the attacker ripped the victim’s tzitzit — a traditional Jewish garment — and uttered antisemitic and anti-Israel slurs.
“SDPD stands united with our community against bigotry and aggressively investigates these types of incidents,” police Lt. Adam Sharki said in a statement. “These acts of hatred only make our commitment to rebuild our menorah even stronger, in a much sturdier and more beautiful way,” Boudjnah said. “We will not be deterred or scared. We firmly believe that light fights darkness, and we stand committed to shine brighter in response to these acts.”
