On Oct. 3, 2021, Stephanie Jimenez, 39, called 911 to report that her daughter, Samantha Jimenez, had hit her head and started vomiting, the court records said. When medical personnel arrived at the residence, they found the girl dead and noticed that she was"small and thin for her age" and appeared to be malnourished compared to her other siblings, the affidavit said.Police on the scene described the girl, who died a week before her 7th birthday, as extremely neglected. The girl weighed only 31 pounds, her hair was infested with lice and had poor hygiene, according to the affidavit.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office said the child died from neglect and malnutrition, with dehydration, kidney infection and pneumonia acting as contributing factors. Jimenez told police she would lock herself in her bedroom and let her six children do whatever they wanted. She also said that she hadn't sought out medical care for Samantha for a year or two prior to her death because she had"no help" as the children's sole guardian, the affidavit said.
