Many foundations across the province raise money to purchase priority medical equipment within their districts.
As the development and major gifts coordinator for the Dr. Noble Irwin Regional Healthcare Foundation, Chris Martens sees the health-care needs of residents in Swift Current and surrounding communities.
“That was one of the things that the hospital really pinpointed was of the utmost importance last year, and still continuing on this year, too.” When Martens’s second daughter was born in Swift Current, she needed a biliblanket due to jaundice, which the Cypress Regional Hospital had available. Without it, Martens said his daughter would have had to be placed in an incubator and instantly separated from her parents — not the most ideal situation. He didn’t realize until years later that the foundation had funded this vital equipment, he said.
