UPDATE: Rockies outfielder Kris Bryant was pulled from Saturday's game against the Phillies with an injury during the third inning. The club is calling his status 'day-to-day.'
Bryant, the designated hitter Saturday, was due to hit in the third inning but was pinch-hit for by Elehuris Montero. According to manager Bud Black, Bryant experienced pain in the sacroiliac joint and glute on his left side during a long first-inning at-bat that ended with Bryant striking out. The SI joint links the pelvis and lower spine.
“When he put his foot down and landed, there was a little bit of pain,” Black told AT&T SportsNet after the game. “I think it’s in his SI joint and his glute. There is a little bit of a sharp pain, but nothing really to do with the back.”Bryant, who entered the game hitting .291 with three home runs, played only 42 games last season because of a lower back injury suffered early in the season followed by plantar fasciitis.
Bryant, 31, signed a seven-year, $182 million contract with Colorado prior to the 2022 season, the largest free-agent contract in franchise history.
