An Alabama man wounded in a 2020 shootout with Montgomery police pleads guilty to bank robbery.

John Adam Vinson Jr., 32, entered his guilty plea Monday to bank robbery and discharging a firearm while committing the crime, according to an announcement Tuesday by Middle District of Alabama U.S. Attorney Sandra J. Stewart.Authorities said Vinson entered the bank, pulled out a gun and fired a shot into a desk at an empty teller station. A bank employee in one of the officers heard the shot and came out of her office.
Vinson put money from the drawers into a bag, jumped back over the teller counter, and ran out of the bank. Vinson was spotted by a responding Montgomery police officer across the street, and shots were exchanged. Vinson was injured in the gunfire. Following his guilty plea Monday, a sentencing hearing will take place in the coming months, Stewart said.
