Before his retirement in 2018, Cable taught math at Conroe High for 45 years. He developed a passion for helping students who had not been nurtured into higher education. As a 2020 graduate, Castillo was leaving high school into an uncertain world. She found it difficult to get a job in the pandemic and said having this scholarship helped her keep going to pursue college.The program also offers a way for Cable to stay in touch with his students and see their education goals through.
