The mother of 5 young children described the scene that turned her stable home into what felt like an island of uncertainty. "I got stuck in the house because I went in the house to close my solar windows because I didn’t want the water to come through the open windows of course and I got trapped. I couldn’t get out," he recalled.
"This is the new normal to be prepared for the worse because the worse continues to happen," said Governor Hochul. Heavy rain has washed out roads and forced evacuations in the Northeast as more downpours were forecast throughout the day.
