While the San Francisco area still came in at No. 4 on Zillow’s list, rental prices in the region have been among the slowest nationwide to rebound after cratering during the pandemic, when tens of thousands of residents — many liberated from the office by remote work — fled to other parts of the state and country. That’s particularly true for the city of San Francisco, where the median rent of $3,550 is about 1% below pre-pandemic levels, according to Zillow data.
