Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year, begins at sundown on Sept. 25 and ends at sundown on Sept. 27. There are a variety of reasons for Jews to hear the blowing of a shofar, a ram’s horn, on Rosh Hashana. A spiritual day retreat on “God’s Healing Power for a Suffering World — St. Padre Pio, a Modern-Day Manifestation of the Saving Wounds of Our Lord Jesus Christ,” 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Speakers include the Rev.
