Just the type of pitcher I am. I knew they had my back from Pitch 1 until the last pitch of the game, so I knew they were gonna be ready for whatever ground ball was coming their way.”
Bielak got the second out of the inning on a sacrifice bunt, but as he fielded it down the first-base line Benson slid home and scored to give Cincinnati a 3-1 lead. Although the deficit appeared manageable, it only widened.Bielak entered Saturday ranked in the bottom 2 percent of major league pitchers in hard-hit ball rate and in the bottom 4 percent in expected slugging percentage. He had allowed multiple extra-base hits in all but one of his prior starts this season.
