'There’s a generation of fans who don’t understand the vitriol and the disdain and the hatred that Tennessee has for Alabama, and, in many cases, vice versa,' CollegeGameDay host ReceDavis said. Alabama and Tennessee, both undefeated, face off Saturday.
Not since 2006 have the Tennessee Vols savored the sweet taste of victory or the stench of a good cigar when it comes to their annual rivalry with Alabama.
The rivalry has been anything but after the Crimson Tide has won 15 straight, but this one feels a little different. It’s No. 6 Tennessee vs. No. 3 Alabama . ESPN’s “College GameDay” will be in Knoxville for the nationally televised CBS game.“It’s going to be the Florida environment on steroids,” Davis told Pete Thamel. “You think you’ve heard loud, you haven’t heard loud until you hear what it’s going to be like then they run through the ‘T’ on Saturday.”
Davis, an Alabama graduate, said the mood will be different than last week’s “GameDay” stop where he described the scene in Lawrence, Kansas as “apprehension.” “They think they’re back,” Davis said of Tennessee. “They are starving to be back because it’s not just beating the juggernaut. There’s a generation of fans who don’t understand the vitriol and the disdain and the hatred that Tennessee has for Alabama, and, in many cases, vice versa.”
