Sentimental or naive, the keys hanging in the ignition of an unattended vehicle might\u0027ve once been an image worthy of a Sask. post card.

Sentimental or naive, it’s apparently common enough to prompt a recent news release from the province’s Mounties, pleading with vehicle owners not to do so. Vehicle theft is a continuing problem in Saskatchewan.

The RCMP stated the truck that struck and killed Const. Shelby Patton in June of 2021 was reported stolen. If the thieves have plans for a vehicle, they’ll sometimes pick their mark based on attributes. For example, a four-wheel-drive pickup might be chosen as it has more ramming capacity, if thieves wish to drive it through the front of a business.

Don’t leave your keys or your keyless-start fobs in your vehicle. Don’t hide them in your vehicle. Lock your doors. Simple.
