Between Nov. 2021 and March 2022, hundreds of calls were made to the provincial 911 dispatch centre, RCMP said in a release. The caller did not identify themselves, nor did they indicate any emergency.
Officers repeatedly checked the area where the calls were being placed from and did not find evidence of any emergency or need for police assistance. RCMP investigated the called, which were determined to be coming from an unregistered cell phone. On Tuesday, officers executed a search warrant at a residence in Kenaston.
A 59-year-old man was arrested and charged with harassing communications and failing to comply with probation order. He will next appear in Saskatoon provincial court on March 30. “911 is the life line for Saskatchewan residents experiencing an emergency,” says Sgt. David Pidlisny of the Saskatoon RCMP. “We can’t tolerate any misuse of it – it needlessly ties up 911 dispatchers’ and police officers’ time. I’m pleased our officers were able to investigate thoroughly and determine the origin of these calls.”The news seems to be flying at us faster all the time. From COVID-19 updates to politics and crime and everything in between, it can be hard to keep up.
