A university archivist at A&M-Central Texas recently dedicated eight months to creating an exhibit detailing the history of the written word.
KILLEEN, Texas — Vicky Eastes loves history. She remembers the first time she saw an extremely rare book.
"I was able to actually hold it with the white gloves," Eastes explained. "And so ever since then I knew that that was what I wanted to do, was I wanted to be able to handle the artifacts and give people the same feeling that I had.""The mission of an archives is to create as much access to the historical record to our patrons as we possibly can. There is a lot of material to go through," Eastes shared.
She recently dedicated eight months to creating an exhibit detailing the history of the written word.Porter is the vice president for research and economic development at A&M-Central Texas. "We can't do a lot of purchasing of these books, but what we can do is tell individuals to preserve the books themselves," Porter said."It's very important that people keep a hold of history to know where we came from, to know what has come before us," Eastes said.
