took three vital steps in getting ready for an approaching MLB debut that finally started to feel realistic. He faced competitive pitching daily. He dove twice in games on his surgically-repaired left shoulder. And he deleted Twitter.
Lest Jung, who would have been in the big leagues earlier if not for the shoulder injury, join them in wondering aloud when the call-up would come, his only choice was to go dark. Even Jung was perhaps getting a little anxious for it. After a faster-than-expected recovery from surgery and a torrid start to his time at Triple-A, maybe he was wondering what he could do it accelerate it. Turns out, that was probably the worst thing he could do.
“In my head, I was like ‘OK, do more,’” he said. “And trying to do more led to way less. That’s when everything fell apart. That was the biggest thing I kind of learned in that moment. Then I tried to chase old feels and had to realize that I basically have a new shoulder and things aren’t going to feel the same way they once did. So it was about figuring out that daily grind and bringing that back to the box.
