“Wild how many people have asked for a school shooting episode of the show I write,” quintabrunson wrote on Twitter last Wednesday.

Quinta Brunson created and stars on the TV series “Abbott Elementary." “Abbott Elementary” creator Quinta Brunson is refusing to write a school shooting episode after fans requested it on social media in the wake of a gunman who killed 19 students and two teachers at a Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.

“Wild how many people have asked for a school shooting episode of the show I write,” Brunson wrote on Twitter Wednesday. “People are that deeply removed from demanding more from the politicians they’ve elected and are instead demanding ‘entertainment.’ I can’t ask ‘are yall ok’ anymore because the answer is ‘no.’”

The ABC series stars Brunson as a second-grade teacher at a fictional elementary school in Philadelphia. She turned down a fan suggesting she tackle the topic to help government understand why new laws are needed, instead urging fans to “use that energy” towards elected officials to enact change that could potentially prevent future mass shootings. “I’m begging you,” she tweeted.

“Abbott Elementary,” also starring Tyler James Williams, Janelle James, Lisa Ann Walter and Sheryl Lee Ralph, returns for a second season this fall. Note to readers: if you purchase something through one of our affiliate links we may earn a commission.
