A federal court in Washington postponed the Wednesday sentencing of Proud Boys leaders in relation to the U.S. Capitol protest on Jan. 6, 2021, citing an emergency.

Proud Boys national leader Enrique Tarrio faces decades in prison after prosecutors said he directed the demonstration despite being outside of Washington at the time. He and top allies were convicted in May of seditious conspiracy and other charges.

“Due to an emergency, the court is not proceeding today with sentencings in the Proud Boys cases. When we get more information, we will share it,” the Justice Department said in a notice to reporters. Prosecutors are seeking 33 years for Mr. Tarrio and decadeslong terms for his top lieutenants in the right-wing group.

The sentences, if delivered, would be the longest for any Jan. 6 defendants. Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes was sentenced in May to 18 years in federal prison.
