County Executive Armond Budish did not address the speakers after public comment but addressed protesters outside of the county building prior to the meeting, telling them, “we are as concerned as you are.”

Nearly 100 activists demonstrated outside of the building leading up to council’s regular meeting, which had a heavy police presence, and several of them spoke during the public comment period. They called on council to advocate for reproductive rights and to allocate more resources toward helping women in crisis in the wake of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to strike down Roe v. Wade. Whether a woman can have an abortion will now be up to the states to decide.
