“The paramedics said they had never seen anything that violent that someone actually lived through,” said Peggy Claar. Now, the driver who hit her may avoid jail time, WRTV Investigates KaraKenney6 has learned.

Peggy Claar of New Castle has undergone 15 surgeries in four years and uses a cane to walk.“I was driving to the bank, and she was just right there,” said Claar. “Boom boom boom. That fast. I didn’t see her coming, so I had no time to react.”

Henry County prosecutors say Carol Wickes of New Castle was under the influence of prescription drugs when she crashed into Claar’s car. WRTV Investigates did some checking and found Causing Serious Bodily Injury when Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated, a Level 6 felony, carries a maximum penalty of 2.5 years behind bars.Claar wrote a letter to the judge this week asking him to reject the plea agreement.
