The entirety of the Lakeside Development was also paved, Fitzpatrick continued, with only Lakeside Drive being left unpaved “because there are eight vacant lots there. It made no sense to do that now and have it torn up when those lots are developed.” “We did all of this with very little impact beyond what the original price point we thought would be once we had everything lined up,” Fitzpatrick said. “In fact, I think when we were done, we had one additional truck of materials beyond what the final anticipated amount was, which is pretty extraordinary given the condition of the streets and alleys we repaired.”
Patterson referred to two $200,000 grants awarded through the Department of Community and Economic Development. The first of the grants was an Economic Development and Community Development Initiative grant “specifically awarded for smoke testing and lining for a section of storm drains, paving Locust Street as well as paving the east and west of Grass and Locust alleys,” according to Fitzpatrick.
