Google's new AR/VR headset may use technology similar to that used in cloud gaming
According to the leak, Google's headset will resemble a pair of ski goggles and will function similarly to Meta and Apple's upcoming headsets by combining computer images with a video stream of the actual environment, resulting in a better and more immersive experience.
Project Iris may not require a connection to external devices for powering or processing. According to the leakers, Google's headset will be powered by a custom Google chipset, likely a variation of Google's own Tensor chipset, which powers the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, and will run on Android. Here is the revolutionary part: Project Iris may use Google's data centers for rendering graphics, which will then be sent to the headset via the internet, similarly to how cloud gaming works. Google's idea will overcome the possible power constraints of the headset's chipset, and if you have a fast and reliable internet connection, it may deliver considerably superior visuals and experience compared to other AR/VR headsets.
According to the leakers, Google's headset is scheduled for release in 2024. But because Project Iris is still in its development stage and Google may not yet have a 'defined go-to-market strategy,' there is a strong possibility that Google may delay its release.Get the most important news, reviews and deals in mobile tech delivered straight to your inbox
