Princess Anne was the only one of the queen's children to join each part of the journey from Balmoral to Windsor.

The tradition, known as Vigil of the Princes, had previously been carried out by male-only royal family members, making Anne the first female member to take part. Anne ended her statement with poignant words of appreciation, writing,"To my mother, The Queen, thank you."
