Prince William, Kate Middleton end 3-day trip to US with Earthshot Prize ceremony
Launched by William in 2020 and inspired by President John F. Kennedy’s iconic “Moonshot” challenge, The Earthshot Prize, now the world’s most prestigious environmental prize, aims to come up with creative solutions to climate change.
Five winners from around the globe scooped $1.2 million each at the awards ceremony, where William called for support to increase the global impact of their work. The five Earthshot categories included: Protect and Restore Nature, Clean our Air, Revive our Oceans, Build a Waste-free World and Fix our Climate.Speaking during the ceremony, The Prince of Wales said, “I believe that the Earthshot solutions you have seen this evening prove we can overcome our planet’s greatest challenges. And by supporting and scaling them, we can change our future.
“Alongside tonight’s winners and finalists, and those to be discovered over the years to come, it’s my hope the Earthshot legacy will continue to grow, helping our communities and our planet to thrive.”Crowds of people welcomed the royal couple.
