Portland Fire & Rescue Chief Sara Boone is retiring in July, the bureau announced on Thursday.
Portland Fire & Rescue Chief Sara BooneBoone joined the bureau as a firefighter in 1995. She rose through the ranks over the next two decades to become a division chief, and was sworn in as chief of Portland Fire in 2019.
“During her tenure, Chief Boone led PF&R through a series of unprecedented events, from the global COVID-19 pandemic to civil unrest for social justice, and then from record breaking wildfires to the humanitarian crisis among our unhoused population,” Portland Fire & Rescue said in a release.Commissioner Rene Gonzalez, who is charged with overseeing the bureau, has appointed Ryan Gillespie as interim fire chief.
