Officials said a man known to police approached a group and took out a handgun in the 3500 block of North Long Avenue at about 9:40 p.m. He then shot the girl in the head. She was taken to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, where she was pronounced dead a short time later, police said.Police said another man at the scene got into a fight with the man who shot the girl, attempting to disarm him. During the struggle, police said the gunman was shot in the face.
