Police: Driver of stolen vehicle drives through entrance of Giant Eagle grocery store
The driver of a stolen vehicle drove through the entrance of the Giant Eagle Market District in Grandview Yard early Monday after reportedly being told the grocer had been closed for hours.
Sometime between 1:30 a.m. and 2 a.m. the driver of a 2018 silver Dodge Journey spoke with a store employee, who apparently told them the West Third Avenue store closes each night at 10 p.m., said Jeffrey Mooney, public information officer with the Columbus Division of Police. The driver then drove through the store's first set of glass automatic sliding doors, reversed, then drove through a second set of glass sliding doors and came to a stop inside the store, Mooney said. After putting the car in reverse once more, the driver fled the area.Grandview Heights police responded and attempted to catch up to the vehicle, but lost sight of it in the area of Chestnut and North High streets, Mooney said.
