Clark police said the school was secured and students were moved to the town's municipal building.
Officers went to the school around 10 a.m. after a call from a school administrator about a student in possession of a handgun, according to the Clark Police Department.
“The building was immediately placed on lockdown and Clark officers responded to the school where they took the student into custody and recovered the firearm,” police said in a statement. The student was charged with weapons-related offenses, according to authorities. The Union County Prosecutor’s Office and Union County Sheriff’s Office also responded to secure the school.
“There were no indications of threats or harm to the school, students or personnel during the incident and the school is considered safe and secure. Parents are not to respond to the school, but will be notified when they are permitted to pick their children up,” Clark police said in the statement.The specific type of weapon was unclear.
