The Pokérap's origins are more interesting than one may think.
For those of a certain age, Pokémon's Pokérap is an instantly recognizable icon. Despite being a simple song that listed all 150 then-existent Pokémon, it became quite the earworm, and many former – and present-day – fans could belt out a verse at the drop of a hat.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The Pokérap played at the end of each episode of Pokémon's anime in the first season. The song was so long it had to be split into five parts, each assigned to a day of the week so that the whole song would play out over the course of each week.
Despite the song's success, D-Train and Floyd didn't see any royalties due to the agreement with 4Kids at the time of recording. While Babi Floyd and D-Train never participated in a lawsuit over this, unlike some others involved in creating original music for the dub, this did end up souring the relationship with 4Kids. D-Train said in the interview that he is proud of his work with Pokémon, and glad that his kids can know their dad did the Pokérap.
The story behind Pokémon's Pokérap is pretty typical, unfortunately, but it's nice to know that D-Train, at least, looks back on the song fondly.
