Ina Minjarez, visited the Express-News’ Puro Politics podcast on Monday. Sakai and Minjarez are vying for a chance to succeed Nelson Wolff, who is stepping down after 21 years in office.
Sakai spoke on the podcast about his ability to bring people together, his determination to break through the “silos of bureaucracy” in local government and, most of all, his commitment to transparency. The Rio Grande Valley native, who finished first in the March 1 primary with nearly 41 percent of the vote, said voters have expressed to him that they feel shut out of the operations of Bexar County government, particularly when it comes to the county’s budget process.
