Plans are similar at UC San Diego. But Cooper said university officials agreed to limit the project to nonresidential buildings after he led opposition to an original plan that called for sending the hydrogen blend to graduate student and family housing.First, hydrogen leaks more easily than natural gas alone, since it’s a smaller, lighter molecule, noted Arun Raju, a research engineer who headed up the UC Riverside study.
