Heather Khalifa / Staff Photographer / Heather Khalifa / Staff PhotograWASHINGTON — Shortly before the Phillies took batting practice Friday, manager Rob Thomson and president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski brought pitcher Ranger Suárez into the training room for a meeting.Suárez won’t start Sunday night against the Nationals in Williamsport, Pa., as scheduled, because of soreness in his hamstring.
“A lot of times your legs get aggravated being on that turf [in Toronto],” Thomson said. “I’m hoping that’s all it was.” Zack Wheeler will start Sunday, while Aaron Nola will be pushed to Monday for the opener of a pivotal series against the Giants. Taijuan Walker, skipped in the rotation this week to get extra rest, is a possibility to start Tuesday, according to Thomson. Walker is scheduled to throw off the bullpen mound Saturday.
In other injury news, Brandon Marsh could rejoin the Phillies on Saturday in Washington, assuming he feels good after playing a second game in a row for triple-A Lehigh Valley.
