The Department of Defense has denied reports from Iran of an incident between the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy and U.S. forces in the region.
The IRGC's navy released a video over the weekend appearing to show its forces intercepting the USS Bataan and the USS Thomas Hudner near the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday, though a Pentagon spokeswoman had denied that such an incident occurred.“I saw those reports. That is not true. I believe what you’re referring to is that they had forced one of our aircraft — that report is not true," deputy Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said on Monday.
Singh admitted she had not seen the video the IRGC published, though she reiterated her stance that such an incident did not occur last week. “I have not seen the video," she said."But I can just tell you the reports that there was some type of intercept of a U.S. helicopter is just not true.” The U.S. military has bolstered its presence in the region due to increased Iranian aggression in the maritime environment. More than 3,000 U.S. sailors and Marines of the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group and 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit arrived in the Middle East in early August to augment the current U.S. presence in the area. Over the past two years, Iran has attacked, seized, or attempted seizure of roughly 20 internationally flagged merchant vessels in the region.Maj. Gen.
“The Islamic Revolution and the Axis of Resistance have the upper hand against the US, the usurper Israel and its allies in the region. This has been achieved through the Leader’s wisdom and tactfulness, as well as the endeavor and perseverance of the Islamic Ummah,” the IRGC chief said.
