EXCLUSIVE Mike_Pence takes aim at failed midterm Trump picks: 'Focused on re-litigating the past'
Former Vice President Mike Pence believes focusing on the 2020 election, during which he and his running mate, former President Donald Trump, lost to President Joe Biden, was"not a prescription for success" in the 2022 midterm elections.
Shortly after the 2022 races, Trump blamed the “abortion issue” for the Republican Party's relative under-performance."poorly handled by many Republicans, especially those that firmly insisted on No Exceptions, even in the case of Rape, Incest, or Life of the Mother, that lost large numbers of Voters," he wrote at the time, also shifting blame to Minority Leader Mitch McConnell for not supporting his senate candidates enough.
Oz ultimately lost to Sen. John Fetterman in the general election. Additional Trump picks, such as Blake Masters, Kari Lake, Doug Mastriano, and Don Bolduc, among others, similarly lost in the general election after Trump's endorsement lifted them to wins in their primaries. According to a recent Quinnipiac University National Poll, 30% of Americans believe that the economy is the top issue when it comes to selecting a president in 2024. The issue is followed by preserving democracy in the United States, with 27%, and abortion, with 9%.
