Pedestrian fatally hit by car, driver flees and later reports the crash, officials say
A man pushing a shopping car died after he was hit by a car that fled the scene Sunday evening, Harris County Sheriff’s Office officials said.
Emergency Medical Services pronounced the pedestrian, identified by Harris County Sheriff’s Office as Juan Rios, dead around 6:15 p.m. Monday in the 15400 block of the East Freeway service road.Before the crash, Rios was pushing a shopping cart from north to south across the roadway. He was struck by a Toyota Tacoma traveling west, according to Harris County Sheriff’s Office. The driver, identified as Kenny Alvarez, left without rendering aid or providing information.
