Palestine rejects Israeli PM-designate Benjamin Netanyahu's controversial offer for self-rule, saying world is 'tired' of such Israeli positions on Mideast peacemaking
"There will be no peace with the policy of annexation and apartheid," says Palestinian Authority, adding world is"tired" of such Israeli positions on Middle East peacemaking.
The Palestinian Authority spokesperson Nabil Abu Rudeineh said on Saturday restoring the Palestinian rights is the key to security and peace in the Middle East, a day after Netanyahu pitched the offer. "Palestinians have all the powers to govern themselves, but none of the powers to threaten our life, which means that security, in whatever political arrangements we'll have, realistically will have to remain in Israel's hands," he said.
Israel occupied the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and Gaza during the 1967 Middle East War. It annexed the entire East Jerusalem city in 1980, claiming it as Israel's "eternal" capital — a move never recognised by the international community. International law views the West Bank and East Jerusalem as "occupied territory" and considers all Jewish settlement-building activity on the land to be illegal.
