Also Tuesday, reliever Steven Wilson was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right pectoral strain. Right-hander Drew Carlton was recalled, just six days after being optioned to Triple-A when the team called up Adrián Morejón.Darvish, who had a fever and body aches, threw a bullpen session Tuesday in San Diego. He is expected to join the team here in the next couple days and start Friday in Cincinnati.
“It shouldn’t be,” manager Bob Melvin said when asked how detrimental these absences might be coming at this time. “Every team has injuries. Whether there are guys that are more significant than others, you know, the rest of us need to pick them up. So if that means we need to score a few more runs, we need to score a few more runs.”
Michael Wacha missed Saturday’s start with shoulder fatigue and was replaced by Matt Waldron, who allowed the Nationals two runs in 4⅔ innings.
