File photosPennsylvania Senate Republican leaders sent a letter to the state’s top election official advising her ahead of Tuesday’s election that they have lingering concerns about how Tuesday’s election will be administered.
“Too often election results are unclear for days or even weeks following an election. However, this is often due to avoidable circumstances. We implore you to take the appropriate steps to ensure a fair and accurate election next week.” In particular, they make a point of stressing the importance that the “law is followed and that counties and the electorate can count on clear and lawful guidance” from the department.
In their letter, the leaders state they were “particularly troubled” by the department’s knee-jerk guidance to counties followingIn that ruling, the justices vacated a May ruling by the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that said mail-in ballots without a required date on the return envelope had to be counted. The high court determined the lawsuit arising from a 2021 Lehigh County judicial race was moot because the election had concluded and a judge had been sworn in.
