The incident occurred at around 6:15 p.m. when 125 yards of pavement at a lot in Penn Hills sank into the ground.
Over a dozen cars were damaged on Tuesday night when a parking lot in the Penn Hills community collapsed, according to multiple news sources.
Police told the Post-Gazette that the lot fell into what used to be an underground parking garage and is now an abandoned warehouse. Emergency workers were searching below the ground to ensure that no one had gotten trapped in that space. A number of stores in the Penn Hills Shopping Center that sit near the apartment building were also evacuated and blocked off, WTAE said, as police said a crack had been spotted in the structure.
