A Centre County man has been sentenced for his role in a fatal 2021 crash that claimed the life of an Ohio woman and seriously injured her husband.
Steven Hunt, 28, was arrested last spring after an investigation into a head-on collision that happened along Route 322 in Bradford Township in October 2021.
Authorities with the Clearfield County District Attorney’s office confirmed that Hunt was sentenced to serve 2 to 6 years in state prison on charges of homicide by vehicle and aggravated assault by vehicle, according toEyewitnesses told officials that Hunt had been traveling at a high-rate of speed and swerved into the opposite lane to avoid a rear-end collision, as traffic had been slowed due to a stopped commercial vehicle at a railroad crossing.
As a result of the speed and the sudden swerve, Hunt struck the Ohio couple’s truck head-on. The crash resulted in both the driver and passenger being flown to UPMC Altoona, theUnfortunately, one of the victims, 74-year-old Cheryl Mravetz, later died due to her injuries. “These types of cases are difficult for all parties involved and no sentence is going to bring a loved one back. At the same time, the Defendant took responsibility for his actions and apologized to the victim, victims’ family, and will be serving a state prison sentence. He has to live the rest of his life knowing what happened and what he did,” Clearfield County DA Ryan Sayers said to WJAC.
