I was so happy to read that Gov.-elect Josh Shapiro and our legislature are planning to overhaul our state school financing. I wonder why it took so long to realize that inner cities and other lower income areas have to suffer with inferior schools compared to the more wealthy suburban school districts.
Of the 55 delegates who attended the Constitutional Convention, more than half had been educated at colleges in America or Europe. Others like Benjamin Franklin and George Washington had earned their PhD in the field of self education. Thomas Jefferson thought a liberal curriculum that prioritized both reason and practical knowledge, would produce the next generation to engage collectively in business, politics and citizenship, without putting one interest against the other.
