Opinion: Public was not fooled by SANDAG's half-cent sales tax proposal [Opinion]
SANDAG knew all along that even a simple majority vote would be a reach and tried to improve the odds. It mistakenly thought that the public would be fooled.
Future transit and environmental advances will require support by the voters for a reasonable funding plan. This defeat represents a call for openness and negotiation with all stakeholders, rather than bullying by SANDAG and special interest groups.
