It took the Biden administration more than 18 months, but this week it finally realized how completely at odds its plans to effectively close a beloved binational border park were with Joe Biden’s years of both positive rhetoric about the border and U.S.-Mexico relations and his criticism of the ugly attitudes of his predecessor Donald Trump.to construct two new 30-foot border barriers in Friendship Park, a gathering spot between Imperial Beach and Playas de Tijuana since 1971.
Yet construction plans did not include pedestrian gate access to the park. Given the popularity, importance and symbolism of Friendship Park, the omission was flabbergasting.
