Assemblymember James Ramos, D-Highland, a lifelong resident of the San Manuel Indian Reservation in San Bernardino County, authored a resolution designating May 2023 asRamos’ announcement noted that cases of murdered and missing Indigenous women are one-seventh as likely to be solved as those of any other demographic, and that American Indian and Alaska Native women face murder rates 10 times higher than the national average.
