Oklahoma executed a man for the brutal slayings of two hotel workers during a robbery in 2001. Donald Grant received a lethal injection at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary and was declared dead at 10:16 a.m. It was the first execution in the U.S. in 2022.

“I can’t change that,” he said of the crime while speaking to the board. “If I could, I would, but I can’t change that.” But the board also heard from members of McElyea’s family, who tearfully urged them to reject clemency for him.
